Audrey & Josh | Zigbone Farm Retreat Wedding

The forecast had rain written all over it for Saturday. All day, every hour, every app I checked. And yet not a single drop fell on Audrey and Josh’s wedding day at Zigbone Farm Retreat in Sabillasville, Maryland. Sometimes you just get lucky, and this was one of those days.

Audrey and Josh started the morning the way most couples do on their wedding day: nervous, excited, and a little bit in disbelief that the day had actually arrived. That energy carried through everything, but it was Audrey’s dress reveal to her bridesmaids that set the tone for just how special this day was going to be.

She’d kept it a surprise, and when she stepped out, it was clear why. Her gown was a soft, light lilac, princess style with a fullness to the skirt that made her look like she’d stepped straight out of a fairytale, the kind of dress that felt like it belonged in Taylor Swift’s Enchanted era. Her bridesmaids’ reactions said it all.

From there we moved into bridal portraits, then groom portraits, soaking in the calm before the ceremony while the sky stayed gray but held its breath.

The Ceremony

The ceremony itself was beautiful, simple, and full of emotion. Audrey and Josh shared a picture perfect kiss halfway down the aisle, surrounded by their family and friends. It’s one of those moments that’s hard to plan for and even harder to forget once you’ve seen it.

After the ceremony we worked through family formals, photos with the wedding party, and then some quieter couples portraits before heading into the reception.

The Reception

If the ceremony was emotional, the reception was pure energy. Audrey and Josh kicked things off with a choreographed first dance full of spins and lifts that had the whole room cheering. Speeches followed, then dinner, and once the dance floor opened up, it never really closed.

Honestly, this was one of the highest energy crowds I’ve ever photographed. Guests were dancing all night, the mobile bar stayed busy, and there wasn’t a single lull in the celebration.

Later in the evening, I pulled Audrey and Josh aside for a few more photos, including one of them running together that let that incredible dress really move. It’s one of my favorite shots from the whole day.

Weddings like this one are exactly why I love documentary-style photography. The nerves, the surprises, the unplanned moments, the all-night dance floor, all of it tells the real story of the day. Thank you to Audrey and Josh for trusting me with your photos. It was an honor to be there.

Planning a wedding at Zigbone Farm Retreat or somewhere else in the DMV area? I’d love to hear about your day and talk through what documentary coverage could look like for you.
