When Emma and Jared first reached out, they knew pretty quickly that a traditional park session wasn’t really them. They cook together. They spend their weekends in the kitchen. That’s where they’re most comfortable, most themselves. So that’s where we went.

I rented a house with the most charming cottage-style kitchen, the kind of space that already feels lived-in and warm before you even set anything up. Exposed brick walls, a farmhouse sink, copper pots on the stove. It was perfect.

We started inside, just the two of them doing what they actually do. They cooked, they tasted things off spoons, they laughed at each other. At one point they sat on the kitchen floor together with drinks in hand and just talked. Those are always my favorite moments to photograph.

There’s something about shooting in a real space, with real props and real routines, that just works. Nobody has to perform anything. The connection is already there.

We wrapped up the session outside, where the afternoon light was doing everything right. The field behind the house had a weathered barn in the background and these two could not stop smiling at each other. We danced, we spun, we got a little barefoot in the grass. It was a good day.

Emma and Jared, I cannot wait for your wedding.
If you’re planning an engagement session and want something that actually feels like you, an at-home or rented-space session might be worth considering. No posing required, just your people and the things you love.
